- Identify topics and issues that need support or improvement and that interest you.
- Interview and survey people in your community such as friends, family members, teachers, and neighbors.
- Record your observations, ideas, and findings.
Below are some topics and questions that can help guide your observations, interviews, and surveys. You can copy these questions into an online document or print them out to record your answers.
Physical Surroundings
Do you feel physically safe in your school or local community? Why or why not?
Does everyone in your community feel physically safe? Why or why not?
Are there things that seem out of place, broken, or dangerous? What and where?
Do your surroundings seem healthy? (air, water, traffic, cleanliness, etc?)
Are there physical impediments or obstacles causing issues for you or people in your community?
What's missing from your community that you would like to see added? (parks, signs, bike paths, sports fields, etc?)
Are there things you would like to see removed? What and where?
What do you think can be physically improved in your community?
Are there animal or local environmental issues that members of your community are concerned about? Why?
Justice
Are there things in your school or community that seem unfair? What and why?
Are there people being treated unfairly in your community? Who and why?
Do you and people in your community have access to basic necessities such as healthcare, medicine, safe drinking water, food, shelter? If no, why not?
Do people in your community generally feel safe and secure?
What issues are causing you or people in your community problems or difficulty?
Are there any specific laws causing difficulty in your community? Why?
Are there laws that are missing or needed in your community? Why?

Are there issues with drugs or alcohol in your community?
Are there medical issues you or your community is not well informed about?
Are there health, mental health, or other medical issues you are interested in?
